Impact Calculator

Calculate your Pride's current environmental impact and possible reduction

This calculator works from publicly available Pride event data and published studies on food, catering and their environmental impacts. It's a rough estimate, not an exact figure — see the methodology note below for details, and get in touch if you have suggestions for improving its accuracy.

30%

Guide: typical outdoor events that last several hours might see vendor use in the 20–45% range. This is generally higher where events have concerts or ticketed areas (potentially above 70%).

Select the commitment level you'd like to estimate — this replaces our old accreditation system. 100% is selected by default.

Methodology

The baseline figures used for a standard (non plant-based) event meal are 200 ft² of land, 450 litres of water and 4.9 kg of CO2e per meal, based on published Pride catering data and general food-system studies.

The reduction potential applied when a meal is switched to fully plant-based — a 52% cut in CO2e, 45% cut in land use, and 27% cut in water use — is drawn from Nature Communications (2024), which found plant-rich diets reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30–52%, land use by 20–45%, and freshwater use by 14–27% versus a standard diet, with a fully vegan diet at the top of every range.

The 100% / 60% / 30% tabs represent the share of an event's meals switched to fully plant-based options — only that share receives the reduction, the rest is assumed to remain at the standard baseline.

This is necessarily a simplified, rough estimate. For the full workings and additional sources, see the calculation and sources document, or visit Further Reading.
