Your data, and how we handle it

Plant-Based Prides is a small volunteer campaign, and we only ever collect the minimum we need to run it. This page explains what that is, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it.

Who we are

Plant-Based Prides is an unincorporated campaign group, not a registered company or charity. For data protection purposes, we (Plant-Based Prides) are the "data controller" for the personal data described on this page. You can reach us at news@plantbasedprides.com, or by post at Hackney Downs Studios, London.

What we collect, and why

The only personal data we collect through this website is through our mailing list sign-up. When you sign up, we ask for your email address, and optionally your first name. We use this to send you occasional updates about the campaign — news, events, and ways to take action — and for nothing else. We don't sell, rent or otherwise share your details with anyone for their own marketing purposes.

The Impact Calculator on this site works entirely in your browser: the attendee numbers and percentages you enter are never sent to us or anyone else, and aren't personal data in any case.

Our legal basis for this

We only add you to the mailing list with your clear, affirmative consent — an unticked box you actively tick, never assumed from anything else. We use a "double opt-in" process, meaning you'll also need to confirm by clicking a link in a confirmation email before you're added. You can withdraw that consent at any time by unsubscribing (a link is included in every email we send), and we'll stop emailing you and remove your details.

Who we share it with

We use Brevo, an email marketing platform, to store our mailing list and send our emails on our behalf. Brevo processes this data under our instructions as our data processor, and their own privacy policy and security practices apply to how they store and protect it. We don't use any other third party to handle mailing list data.

Signing the petition or joining the wider campaign happens on a platform run by Plant Based Britain (act.plantbasedbritain.org), a separate organisation. Any information you give them there is covered by their privacy policy, not this one — we'd encourage you to have a look at it if you're signing up through their site.

How long we keep it

We keep your details for as long as you stay subscribed to the mailing list. If you unsubscribe, you're removed straight away. We also periodically review the list and remove anyone who's been inactive for a long time, so we're not holding on to data longer than we need to.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • ask us what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it
  • ask us to correct anything that's inaccurate or out of date
  • ask us to delete your data, or stop using it
  • withdraw your consent at any time (simplest way: unsubscribe)
  • complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you think we've got something wrong — see ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint

To exercise any of these, just email us at news@plantbasedprides.com and we'll sort it out.

Emails and tracking

Like most email marketing platforms, Brevo includes small tracking pixels and link-tracking in the campaigns we send, so we can see roughly how many people open and click through our emails. We use this only to understand what our community finds useful, not to build detailed profiles of individuals.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time as the campaign grows — for example if we start using new tools. We'll update the date below when we do. This version was last updated in August 2026.
